The minimum monthly charge to be paid to the city by customers
of the water system shall be charged whether the premises are
occupied or vacant and during all temporary water shut-offs,
unless the shut-off is caused solely by the city.
A few water tips to remember. Every meter has a shut off valve a couple of inches before the meter and legally, can only be shut off by the Water department (City Ordinance 351). However, in cases of an emergency (broken pipe etc.) you may shut it off.
It is a good idea to know the following:
1. Where your meter box is located. We will be glad to show you its location.
2. Make sure the meter and shut off valve are not buried in dirt.
3. The meter box is required to be easily accessible with no vegetation, gravel, flowers, shrubs, trees or bushes blocking access.

BACKFLOW PREVENTERS: Are required to be tested annually. (City Ordinance 687/WAC 246-290-490). We require them to be tested between April 1st and May 31st. If you are not going to use your backflow preventer, it must be physically removed from your system and inspected by the Water Department. Failure to have it tested or removed will result in your water being turned off until such time as it is tested or removed.
