City of Roy   Washington

. . . about libraries, 4th of July and garage sales.

City residents with Pierce County Library cards were recently notified that because they no longer pay taxes to support a library, the reciprocal agreement that allowed them to have cards is no longer in effect. Roy residents may still use county library services that do not require a library card. Roy residents may also purchase a Timberland Library card (Yelm).
Taxes in the city limits support the City’s general fund, which funded the city library until the end of 2018. Property taxes outside city limits include a levy for the county library system.
Residents who feel strongly may advise the Roy City Council that they would support a ballot measure to join the county library system and pay that property tax levy. Council meetings are at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in City Hall.

The Lacamas Community Club is again sponsoring the 4th of July Parade starting at noon at the rodeo grounds and traveling north on Warren Street. Private use of lawful fireworks is allowed from noon on June 28 to 11:00 p.m. on July 5, EXCEPT between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.

The third citywide garage sale will be Saturday, August 3, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We have listened to feedback and adjusted the details each year. People say it’s best to be the first Saturday of a month, and although August competes with Whitewater Estate’s annual sale, the other warm months have conflicts with holidays and local events. We will again make a flier with participant addresses, which will be in front of City Hall at 8:00 that morning. In addition, we are asking participants to mention an item that will be for sale. Hopefully, these two changes will keep more shoppers in town, and hopefully it won’t result in too many early birds.
If you want to be on the map, please submit your address and an item for sale to City Hall no later than July 24 – and that is a firm deadline, folks.
